This workshop teaches facilitation skills so that participants will increase their confidence in facilitating difficult discussions. The session introduces facilitation skills such as: questioning, active listening, tracking (calling back to what has been shared), naming dynamics, using names, inviting participants to share, being comfortable with silence, holding space for dissent and conflict (being comfortable with discomfort), deflecting (redirect negative tangents), knowing your triggers, modeling, giving, and time keeping. Participants also reflect on their own social identities, such as gender, race, immigration status, religion, and more and how those identities impact facilitation.

Body language speaks louder than words. Professor Albert Mehrabian became internationally recognized for his research on verbal and non-verbal communication. The frequently condensed version of his findings states that: 93% of the time we are judged by how we look and act only 7% of the time by what we say. Your words and message are key – but if you fail to convey confidence in what you are saying, we will believe your body language. Participants will identify and workshop presentation mechanics that convey confidence virtually and in live settings.

In this session, participants will explore the power of storytelling and rewrite the narrative of their experience to design compelling origin stories. Productive feedback loops are foundational to creating environments where equity thrives. In effective organizations, feedback and reflection are a constant. Feedback is demonstrated in formal and informal settings, addressing positive experiences as well as areas for improvement. In this interactive session, participants will develop a comprehensive set of skills that includes receiving and processing feedback to develop as professionals, as well as giving feedback in ways that are productive and aligned with the organization’s values.

A crucial conversation is a discussion between two or more people where the stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong. When handled poorly or ignored, these conversations may lead to strained relationships and dismal results. By learning how to speak and be heard (and encouraging others to do the same), we increase the likelihood of surfacing the best ideas, making the highest-quality decisions, and then acting on decisions with unity and commitment. This session teaches and practices skills for creating alignment by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional, or risky topics—at all levels of an organization.

Research indicates that one of the most effective ways to fight stress is to develop resilience and persistence. In this workshop, participants will engage in one of two activities to help identify the greater meaning that drives you.
